HERITAGE RECHARGED | International Conference

How can the energy performance of modern and contemporary architectural heritage be improved while preserving its cultural, material and architectural values? On 8 October 2026, Università Iuav di Venezia will host the final international conference of Heritage Recharged, a research project dedicated to the relationship between architectural conservation and energy efficiency in post-1945 buildings. Coordinated by Università Iuav di Venezia and funded by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the project involves Politecnico di Milano, Docomomo Italia and the Camera di Commercio di Brescia, together with international partners including TU Delft – section Architecture & Heritage, Pier Luigi Nervi Project Foundation and Fondation Le Corbusier. Through the analysis of emblematic case studies, the conference will bring together scholars, professionals, institutions, owners and foundations to explore methodologies and strategies for balancing energy performance, sustainability and conservation in modern and contemporary architecture.
The programme includes contributions by Daniel A. Barber, Bénédicte Gandini, Claudio Varagnoli, Valeria Pracchi, Sara Di Resta, and other scholars, professionals and institutional representatives, followed by a final roundtable. Click here for more information.
