Getting to know the Neutra Hall of Records

Connected to the 19th International DOCOMOMO Conference at USC in Los Angeles, the accompanying student workshop kicked of on Thursday March 12 at the Neutra Institute for Survival Through Design with an impressive introduction by Raymond Neutra on the legacy of his father and brother, Richard and Dion Neutra.
A visit to the VDL-house and the Reunion house, part of the Neutra colony at Silverlake, completed the introduction to the great Neutra architecture.
The second day of the workshop centered around a visit to the Hall of Records from 1962. During the workshop the transformation potential of this building will be studied. The hypothetical question that was formulated for the workshop is: Can and if so, at what cost, this building be converted to affordable housing?
From Saturday 14th onwards, students and tutors will focus for 3 days on exploring the attributes and values of the building to finally design scenarios for preservation and adaptive reuse.
