mASEANa project: appreciating modern ASEAN architecture

The mASEANa (modern ASEAN architecture) Project, initiated in 2015, operated for six years until 2020. Within the defined period local and foreign architects, researches, politicians and citizens were called to think together and take action on modern architecture in Southeast Asia. A book showcasing the project results is available online.

The project aimed to create an inventory of modern architecture in Southeast Asia; to write a history of modern architecture of Southeast Asia; and to suggest methods for preservation of the modern architecture in Southeast Asia.

The project was coordinated by Dr. Johannes Widodo (The National University of Singapore), Dr. Yoshiyuki Yamana (The Tokyo University of Science), Dr. Shin Muramatsu (The University of Tokyo) and managed internationally by the local volunteers and their priceless contributions to the project. International organizations such as DOCOMOMO International, ICOMOS 20th committee and mAAN (modern Asian architecture Network) supported the project.
