17th International DOCOMOMO Conference – Day One
The 17th International DOCOMOMO Conference has had a successful opening day on September 6, 2022 hosted by the UPV – Universitat Politècnica de València. The official ceremony took place in the evening, with the Rector of UPV, Mr. Jose Capilla welcoming the audience and presenting the speakers of the ceremony: The Director of the ETSA/UPV, Mr. Ivan Cabrera, the Chair of the organizing party, Ms. Maite Palomares, the Chair of DOCOMOMO International, Prof. Uta Pottgiesser, President of World Design Capital Valencia, Ms. Marisa Gallen, Vice President and Minister of Housing and Bioclimatic Architecture of the Generalitat Valenciana, Mr. Hector Illueca, and the Mayor of Valencia, Mr. Joan Ribó, who each addressed the audience and spoke of the importance of the event and its connections to the vital policies in education, sustainability and international cooperation. The floor was then given to the contemporary dance performers of the SHAPE group. The ceremony resumed with the presentation of former DOCOMOMO International Chair Ana Tostões’ book presentation “Modern Heritage Reuse, Renovation, Restoration,” followed by a short speech dedicated to Prof. Tostões by the honorary president and co-founder of DOCOMOMO, Mr. Hubert-Jan Henket, and closed with the keynote speaker, Mr. Barry Bergdoll’s lecture “Activists on the home front: women curators at the Museum of Modern Art since 1933.”
