DOCOMOMO Russia invites to the conference
Restoration and Adaptive Reuse: Function - Inner Spaces - Colour
In Moscow, at the ZIL Culture Centre on April 4-6, 2014

The conference will be held at the world famous monument of modern architecture – the Proletarskiy District Palace of Culture (ZIS, ZIL), designed by Constructivist leaders, the Vesnin brothers, the restoration of which is on the agenda today.

The focus will be on specific aspects of the restoration and adaptation of public buildings for modern needs, during which scientific surveys are necessary, as well as the development of a consistent concept the building´s use, and a comprehensive understanding of the professional line of reasoning.

International practices will be examined, since in our country there still have been no cases of really high quality restoration and successful reconstruction of architectural heritage of the twentieth century.
When considering domestic examples, including those that are currently under development, we will focus on the most difficult issues for interpretation:

- on the correct attitude towards architectural elements from different times and valuable historical layers (which are present in DK ZIL and should enter into the subject of protection of the complex);
- on ways to demonstrate authentic constructions and materials;
- on interior design solutions;
- on attempts to restore lost historical forms, their styling and imitation.

More information and the program will be published on the site
