DATE: 1/2/2018
Exhibition in collaboration with the DoCoMoMo Israel Chapter, at Tel-Aviv Jaffa’s Architect’s House.

“Timely Teaching: Educational Idealism and Modern Architecture,” is an exhibition that was displayed during the past two months at the Architect´s House Gallery, Israel Association of United Architects, in Tel-Aviv Yafo. The exhibition was curated in collaboration with the DoCoMoMo Israel Chapter and engages educational ideologies and the architecture built for implementing them in Israel/Palestine.

The exhibition evolved from the 2016 inaugural DoCoMoMo-Israel symposium, held at the Technion Institute, Haifa. It presents buildings for education designed in Israel/Palestine from the 1920s until the late 1970s, including innovative schools and children´s houses planned by émigré modernist architects, as well as buildings designed by the architects of late modernism in Israel. The exhibition comprises a wealth of new material that successfully examines diverse modernist educational facilities in their social and ideological contexts.

“Timely Teaching: Educational Idealism and Modern Architecture,” is accompanied by a Hebrew catalog containing the DoCoMoMo-Israel symposium proceedings. A full house attended the exhibition evening discussion panel, held February 1st, 2018, which broadened the visual and interactive experience of the display to a discussion of the documentation and preservation of modernist architecture for education in Israel, and prospects for innovative planning approaches in the 21st century.
