MODSCAPES Conference: Modernism, Modernization and the Rural Landscape
10th-13th June 2018, Estonian University of Life Sciences, Tartu, Estonia
DATE: 10/6/2018
From 10 to 13 June, the MODSCAPES International Conference - Modernist reinventions of the rural landscape - took place in Tartu, Estonia, and home to the Estonian University of Life Sciences, partner in MODSCAPES and organizer of the conference, from 10 to 13 June 2018.

Being Docomomo International is an associated partner of the research project MODSCAPES, the Chair, Prof. Ana Tostões, participated presenting the keynote lecture "Rural Modern Landscapes: Paradox or Metaphor".

This conference aims to:

- attract other scholars, practitioners, decision-makers and citizens concerned with modern rural landscapes;
- gain insight in case-studies and approaches not examined within the project;
- disseminate the intermediary outcomes of the project; and
- consolidate MODSCAPES’ international network.

The conference is preceded by an international call for papers, and will comprise keynote lectures, presentation sessions, and social events. All accepted papers will be published in online proceedings, possibly to be made available at the conference itself. The conference organizers are making provisions to propose a selection of the best conference papers (including papers by non-MODSCAPES scholars) to be improved and published in edited journal issues."

MODSCAPES explores rural landscapes produced by large-scale agricultural development and colonisation schemes planned in the 20th century. This transnational research project investigates 11 case studies across Europe and beyond.
