Exhibition: 19 Architectural Projects Surrounding the Market
13th June – 2nd July 2018, Fórum Municipal Romeu Correia, Almada, Portugal
DATE: 13/6/2018
“The 19 showcased works propose an intervention in the central zone of the city of Almada, with the aim of reflecting on the relation between architecture, culture and city. The program allows to develop the fundamental rules of architecture and connect students to the professional practice. Each group has the task of developing a defined database program (Student Residences, Almada Municipal Market Support).

The atelier PArq-IV and V works on a project methodology linked to its context. The studio devotes special attention to the theme of representation, a crucial project´s communication instrument, and develops the project as close as possible to the real professional practice.

The present exercise consists on developing a revitalization proposal for the area of the Center of Almada, namely the area delimited by the three fundamental labels for the Municipal Market of Almada: The interior of the northern quarter (former EDP building), the interior of the eastern quarter ( Auto-Monumental building) and the interior of the Quarter to the West (Quarteirão das Oficinas). Taking into account the new habits of the inhabitants and even of a latest public, it is suggested an intervention program focused on the requalification, not only of each building and correspondent uses, but also of those that are being used as adjacent spaces.”

This collection of works is a production of the students of the architects Ricardo Bak Gordon and Pedro Sousa, 4th year Master’s Architecture degree of Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon (Portugal), in partnership with the Municipality of Almada.  The exhibition will take place at Fórum Municipal Romeu Correia, Almada, inaugurating on 13th June by 18h30, and can be visited until 2nd July 2018.
