Exhibition: Carrilho da Graça: Lisbon
24th May - 29th June 2018, School Of Urbanistic Architecture and Construction Engineering – Milan Polytechnic, Milan, Italy
DATE: 24/5/2018
After visiting Portugal, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Spain and France, the exhibition "Carrilho da Graça: Lisboa." is now showing in Italy, integrated in Milano Arch Week.

Curated by Marta Sequeira, professor and researcher at the University of Lisbon and Susana Rato, architect and former collaborator on atelier Carrilho da Graça, it is offered a selection of 13 projects for the city of Lisbon, from one of the best-known Portuguese architects, between the end of the years of 1980 and 2015.

“This is not an exhibition about João Luís Carrilho da Graça, nor about his work. It is not just an exposition about their projects. In spite of the inevitable anthological character, this exhibition shows above all a way of looking, present from the beginning of his professional and teaching activity, here illustrated from the city on which he has been working for more than 30 years: Lisbon.

We live on the earth and build with all that is available. We can build what we want, but we can not stop building with meaning.
João Luís Carrilho da Graça, in "Architecture is dangerous", 1994

The contents of this exhibition allow the approach to a theory of territory, as stated in a plan and model of Lisbon, and reiterated by the models of the projects presented. It is a theory that understands the fact that the remarkable lines and points that characterize the topography are at the base of human routes and settlements, and therefore of the construction of the city and its architecture.” In espaço de arquitectura website

Carrilho da Graça: Lisbon can be visited from 24th May to 29th June, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm, at School Of Urbanistic Architecture and Construction Engineering – Milan Polytechnic in the Gamma Hall.
