International Happening of Urban Planning: Mad City
31st May - 1st June 2018, Riga, Latvia
DATE: 31/6/2018
“We, an urban planning company in Latvia, are the organizers of an annual international event called Mad City Happening. It’s not a usual conference but rather a fun, engaging, informal, intense “happening” that gathers a diverse crowd of people who are interested in the development of future cities. This year Mad City will take place in Riga, on May 31st and June 1st and we are excited to invite you to take part in it!

Mad City 2018 main theme is “Money and The City”. We will discuss the hidden benefits public space, biking, walking and sharing within a city, we will explore new types of financing such as crowdfunding and blockchain, we will hear 10 true stories about the relationship between money & the city, and much more. We are very happy to welcome such world-renowned speakers as Jan Gehl (Denmark), Charles Marohn (USA), Aivaras Abramavicius (Ukraine), Alexander Stahle (Sweden), Taichi Goto (Japan), Biljana Savic (United Kingdom) and many others. I am attaching the Program, so you can have a look at the topics and speakers in more detail.

While day #1 will be dedicated to expert lectures and discussions, day #2 will be a full-on urban planning hackathon – an idea competition for the revitalization of the former industrial area of VEF where MadCity will be taking place this year. Teams will have a chance to work on developing their original ideas and compete for the main prize of 10,000 EUR!” By Mad City team
