Exhibition: Del camp a la casa. Els poblats de colonització de les Terres de Ponent
22 September, 18 November 2016, Vestíbulo de la Demarcación, Lleida, Spain
The exhibition “Del camp a la casa. Els poblats de colonització de les Terres de Ponent” [From the field to the house. The towns of colonization of the lands of the West] originated from the work carried out as to identify, classify and digitalize the maps of “poblados de colonización” [colonization villages] which were provided by Archivo Histórico de Lleida.
The Instituto Nacional de Colonización (INC) was established once the civil war had ended in 1939 with the aim to develop new towns and rural centres for the settlement of farmers. In the area irrigated by the canal of Aragón and Cataluńa, four villages were built - all were designed by well-known architects: Gimenells (Alejandro de la Sota, 1945), Sucs (José Borobio, 1948), Pla de la Font (José Borobio, 1956) and Vencillón (Manuel Jimenez Varea, 1961).
The exhibition contributes to the dissemination of the original material, as well as the most recent studies, because the first step to protect this heritage is by getting to know it and to explain its value.
