"Oscar Niemeyer Museum hosts exhibition on the architect Joao Batista Vilanova Artigas
The Oscar Niemeyer Museum (MON) receives, in rooms 4 and 5, the show "In details a universe - Centenary of Vilanova Artigas" on Curitiba architect Joao Batista Vilanova Artigas (1915-1985), who would have turned 100 years in 2015.
The exhibition, which will occupy two rooms - about a thousand square meters - will bring unique designs, artistic architect drawings and models (of various formats and scales) as well as works of artists from modernism to concrete, particularly those who influenced the work of Artigas , photographs and family collections of documents. There will also be videos and documentary clippings which was produced especially for the the commemoration of the centenary.
Despite the importance of Artigas in the national and world architecture, his work is little known in his homeland. Still, between projects, studies and drafts left about 30 works around the Parana, especially in the capital and Londrina.
The architect became one of the most respected names in Brazilian architecture of the 20th century Among the 700 projects produced during his career, are: building the FAU-USP; Housing Complex Zezinho Magalhaes Prado in Guarulhos; Urban walkways; Football Morumbi stadium; clubs; unions and several houses.
The curator Maria Jose Justino analyzes: "To speak of Joao Vilanova Artigas is to dive in a multiple universe. This exhibition seeks to show the architect, the artist, the master, the politician and the citizen. And all perspectives, Artigas was found to be intact. It is, first and foremost, a thinker. A man who thinks his human condition, his present, the reality of his country and its role as a professional and citizen. "
