15th International Docomomo Conference: Metamorphosis. The Continuity of Change

The 15th International Docomomo Conference, under the theme "Metamorphosis. The Continuity of Change", took place at the Cankarjev Dom, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, between the 28th and the 31st of August, 2018. 

Docomomo International thanks Docomomo Slovenia, the Scientific Committee, the Keynote Speakers, the Session Chairs, the Speakers and all the attendants for the participation in the 15th International Docomomo Conference. Thanks to you, the 15th International Docomomo Conference was a success. It was a pleasure to count with your commitment, knowledge and scientific work.

Following Chopin´s Grande Polonaise Brillante, op. 22 e-flat major, played by Urban Stanic, the Chair of Docomomo International formally opened the 15th International Docomomo Conference, with an enthusiastic welcoming address, followed by the two inspiring keynote lectures from Hubert-Jan Henket and Liane Lefaivre, where an homage was paid to Aldo van Eyck.

The first Conference day finished with the presentation of the International Student Workshop and the Opening of five exhibitions at the Cankarjev Dom:

- 15IDC´s Poster Exhibition
- The Photographer Janez Kališnik – Space In-Between", curated by Nataša Koselj
- Aldo van Eyck´s Amsterdam Playgrounds
- Discussion in Plecnik´s Villa: Alexander Tzonis, Liane Lefaivre, Damjan Prelovšek Milan Mihelic´s architecture and its renovation
- Docomomo Slovenia_100 and Edvard Ravnikar´s presentation of the Revolution Square

The second Conference day, 29th August 2018, was dedicated to Jože Plecnik, with Keynote speeches from Damjan Prelovšek, in the morning, and Vladimir Šlapeta, in the afternoon. 

The third day was introduced by a keynote lecture from Claes Caldenby under the subject "Architecture and Society. The case of white architects". In the afternoon, the Council Meeting took place, where six new Docomomo working parties were approved: Armenia, Bulgaria, India, Qatar, Romania and Vietnam.
Finally, the day ended with a Keynote speech from Alexander Tzonis dedicated to "In Times of creative destruction, the struggle towards a non-oppressive environment". 

The last day of the conference began with the keynote speech by Špela Videcnik and Rok Oman on restoration works conducted in Slovenian modern architecture, and was closed with a Roundtable celebrating the 30 years of Docomomo, conducted by Hubert-Jan Henket. 

Finally, the 15th International Docomomo Conference 2018 was closed with a tribute to the founders of Docomomo, Hubert-Jan Henket and Wessel de Jonge, for the 30th anniversary of Docomomo, followed by a party held at The Skyscraper. 

Even though the 15th International Docomomo Conference 2018 as formally closed, many participants took the chance to enjoy the very meaningful Docomomo Tours organized by Docomomo Slovenia.

Docomomo International invites you to further participate in the 16th International Docomomo Conference that will take place in Tokyo, in September 2020, under the theme "Resilient Inheritability: Sharing Values of Global Modernity".
